Tacoma Rainiers vs. Colorado Springs Sky Sox
Third Game in the Springs this year 43rd with Coors.
Before we entered the stadium we did take a lap around the stadium to see if we could find some baseballs but we did not look like there was no batting practice again.
While the sun was out at Security Service Field clouds loomed in the distance. When I left Thornton there were tornado warnings near the airport and the tornado sirens were going off as I was going through Aurora. It did not rain in the Springs or did we not see any on our way down. It was slightly chilly and windy during the game. It was about 60 at the end of the game.
This game I attended because I forgot my camera and autograph stuff for a few weeks ago when I saw the same 2 teams play in the Springs. This time I brought it and I did get to have Howard Johnson sign a Shea Stadium ball and a card. So I finally got my Hojo autographs. I did have more cards but he only signed 2 items. Above he is handing over the scorecards and going over the ground rules with Glennallen Hill and the Umpires.
This is the Howard Johnson Autographed Shea Stadium Ball.
Chris Volstad started for the Sky Sox he was up with the Rockies briefly last week but was brought back down.
The Rainiers first batter Abraham Almonte grounded out to Ryan Wheeler to lead off the game.
Almonte running down the first base line, while Ben Paulsen catches the ball hit to Ryan Wheeler for the first out of the game. The I would have one runner in the inning Carlos Peguero who walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Erasmo Ramirez was the starting pitcher for the Rainiers. He has pitched 5 games for the Seattle Mariners this year. Not sure if this was a rehab assignment or he was sent down but he pitched really well. Ramirez also faced 4 batters in the 1st. He struck out Charlie Blackmon, Time Wheeler grounded out before Corey Dickerson was the first Sky Sox runner of the inning he reached on an error by Leury Bonilla. Dickerson would remain on base when Matt McBride grounded out to end the 1st for the Sky Sox.
Dickerson running to first after Bonilla’s error.
The Rainiers scored a run in the 2nd. Stefan Romero hit a double to lead off the game. He scored batters later on a Rich Poythress single the inning ended when Brandon Bantz hit into a double play.
Lars Davis putting down a bunt with Hernan Iribrren on second.
here he is running to first as Brandon Bantz fields the ball. He did get out but as the guy behind me said a few time during the game “at least he advance the runner that is the important thing”. Iribarren did advance to third he was also left on third after Blackmon hit a very shallow hit to right and Time Wheeler grounded out.
There was not too much action with Volstad and Ramirez pitching pretty well. This is Charlie Culbertson sliding into third in the 5th inning. He did score on a Iribbaren sac bunt which got him to second on a Ramirez throwing error. He also scored for a Sky Sox 2-1 lead.
Between innings Tanya did one of the on field contests she played fish Or Not a Fish. She had the word Fandango and she guessed correct it was not a fish it is a dance. She won as they say it cold hard cash!!!
The Sky Sox continued to score in the 6th inning Dickerson started it off with by walking and would advance on another error by Ramirez pick off attempt. He would score on a McBride double. (3-1) Sox
The above photo is of McBride sliding into second for his run scoring double. Alex Liddi did bobble the throw from left. McBride would score on a Culbertson single. (4-1) Sox
Glennallen Hill took Volstad out of the game with 1 out and 2 runners on after giving up base hits to Stefan Romero and Leury Bonilla.
Volstad leaving the field.
Nick Schmidt came into pitch for the Sky Sox. He face Carlos Poythress who hit into a double play to end the inning. Schmidt also pitched the 8th inning.
Charlie Blackmon got on base in the 7th and stole second base. The inning was over when Tim Wheeler struck out.
2 Wheelers Ryan in the dugout and Tim at the plate. it would have been cooler if they were playing the Las Vegas 51’s and Zach wheeler was the pitcher. Zach actually made his MLB debut this night for the Mets in Atlanta.
Sox the Fox gets the crowd going as Bobby Cassevah pitches in the 9th inning.
Culberson fields the grounder for the final out of the game.
Iribarren makes the catch to get Alex Liddi out at second to end the game.
Lars Davis and Bobby Cassevah high-five after the 4-2 win.
That is it for this game in the Springs pretty productive day for autograph and a good game for the Sky Sox with the win. Beside the Howard Johnson autographs I got Aaron Cook on 2 cards, Volstad on a photo and a Rainiers catcher Jason Jaramillo on a card. Did not have too much with me to sign so that was pretty good.
Well Leaving for my road trip got things to get done before I go see you around.
Confirmed tickets for Boston and should be starting the trip with a game in St. Louis against the Rangers. Really wanted to see the Cubs series can’t make it for that game.
See you around!
